CONNAX: GUARDING THE WORLD OF SMART APPLIANCES

The number of smart household appliances in the world is constantly growing: by the end of 2017, the figure is going to reach almost 9 billion! Everything around us becomes a computer: toasters, refrigerators, cars ... At the same time, smart appliances have the same cybersecurity problems as our typical computers. The habit of protecting personal computers has been cultivated for years, whereas the same habit is yet to be developed in regards to smart appliances. Thus the Internet of Things (IoT) remains the most unprotected and therefore attractive area for cybercriminals.
In 2014 the founders of a Russian startup CONNAX came up with the idea of securing data transfer for IoT. It was then that the company began to assemble an engineering team with a task to create a “built-in” SIM card for IoT (eSIM).

SAMOCAT SHARING: ENJOY YOUR RIDE ON UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

In the summer 2017, Russian startup “Samocat Sharing” (resident of Skolkovo Innovation Center in Moscow), and the city of Espoo began a pilot project for kick scooter rentals at the Aalto University campus located in the Otaniemi area. Startup concept: to offer students, scientists, businessmen and visitors of the Otaniemi technology center a convenient and environmentally friendly way to move around the campus.
“Samocat Sharing” is not just scooters, but a network of rental stations designed to make the whole rental procedure very simple. A customer downloads the mobile app, finds the nearest rental station, selects a tariff, opens the “lock” – and leaves the station riding a kick scooter. Payment is automatically charged upon returning the vehicle.

HEXLET EDUCATIONAL PROJECT: REACHING EUROPE FROM FINLAND

“Hexlet” is an educational platform for programmers of any level: from beginners to professionals. Using Finland as a starting point, the project plans to enter EU market. Online programming lessons are no longer a novelty, but this Russian-Kazakh Hexlet project is somewhat different from the others. First of all, it offers two-hour long practical sessions, each teaching a specific skill or capacity. The high-tech company Fishmagnet was founded in 2006 by engineers, specializing in the field of sound and light waves transmission.
The electronic bait they developed attracts fish with a combination of light, sound and vibration and is one of a kind.
The more advanced Fishmagnet-2 bait was developed in 2011 to replace the original Fishmagnet device that the company had been producing for more than seven years. The new device is capable of generating low-frequency waves propagated up to 900 meters in freshwater and up to 1100 meters in salt water.
